CHESTERFIELD, NJ – The Chesterfield Twp Elementary Board of Education is set to meet tonight at 7pm for the first meeting of 2019. Though a new member will be sworn in tonight, there will still be an empty chair at the table, as former BOE President Jignesh Shah resigned last month.

An active member of the public, often speaking during the public comments portions of meetings, Jacklyn Halaw will be sworn in during tonight’s Board of Education Meeting in the Elementary School Library, joining Dr. Terran Brown, Ms. Christina Hoggan, and Mrs. Amy Jablonski. Halaw ran unopposed in the November 6th, 2018 race to fill Bond’s expired term, capturing 1,509 votes.

The Board Secretary, Patrick Pisano, will begin the meeting, and after a President and Vice-President have been chosen, the President will then run the meeting.

According to Board Member-Elect Halaw, the school board will hold public interviews with interested members of the community, and then the current board will vote to fill the open seat. The timeline for those interviews is not clear at this time.

At this time, it is unknown who will be on the Negotiations Subcommittee between the Board and the Chesterfield Twp Education Association. Shah appointed Hoggan after removing Jablonski in September of 2018, resulting in public backlash. Halaw has confirmed to WBNC News that she is unable to participate as she has family members involved with the Education Association.
