McGinnis and MacPherson were in an altercation with each other in September 2017, over girlfriend Caitlyn Huertas. McGinnis later stabbed Macpherson in his sleep, carried his body out of the Browns Mills home, and into his truck where he later drove the body to a wooded area in Ocean County and dumped MacPherson. His skeletal remains were found in March 2018 during a conducted controlled burn of the wooded area by district warden Richard Burn.
