WASHINGTON, D.C. –

200 students from a South Orange middle school visited Speaker Paul Ryan, but only half of those students took a photo with him.

Matthew Malespina, a student on that Washington field trip, was among the 100 students who did not take a photo with the Speaker. Matthew was adamant on not partaking in the event, stating “It’s not just a picture. It’s being associated with a person who puts his party before his country.”

While his mother supported his action, many others did not agree. Parents flooded social media, one even saying that students should respect the Speaker of the House, even if they disagree with the man who holds that office.

After the event, students said the speaker left unaware of the 100 students who watched as the photo was being taken.
