CHESTERFIELD, NJ – This past month, the Pinelands Commission voted to approve a controversial pipeline project that runs, in part, through the South Jersey Pinelands.

The vote was 9 members for, 5 against, and 1 abstaining. The public comment portion of the meeting took place after the vote, and Jeff Tittel of the New Jersey Sierra Club spoke about the alleged influences affecting the Commission’s decision.

“We sued you once, we’re gonna sue you again!” yelled Tittel.

Chesterfield Township, Bordentown, and other local activists have been fighting a central jersey pipeline proposal for years. According to an OPRA request filed by the Burlington County Times, Chesterfield has spent $370,681 in the past 2 years on litigation and regulatory proceedings.

The fight continues this month with a fundraiser at the Chesterfield Inn on March 14th held by People Over Pipelines. With a requested $15 donation, you can enjoy the pizza, beer, and wine party and learn about where People Over Pipeline members believe the township is in the fight against the pipeline.
